Copywriting vs content writing
Content writing mostly informs or teaches, like a guide or blog post. Copywriting asks for an action. Many pages need both: useful information and a clear reason to act.
What good copy does
It speaks to one reader, names their problem in their words, shows what changes for them, backs it up with proof and makes the next step obvious.
Where it matters most
Headlines, ad text, calls to action, pricing pages and the first screen of a landing page. Small wording changes in these places can change results noticeably.
Why Copywriting matters
Traffic only turns into customers if the words convince people to act. Clear, specific copy often improves results more cheaply than buying more traffic.
Saying what the customer actually gets
A plumbing company's homepage headline read 'Excellence in Plumbing Solutions'. Changing it to 'Same-day plumbing repairs, with upfront prices' told visitors what they'd get and why to call, and the page started producing more calls.
Common mistakes
Talking about yourself
Copy full of 'we are' and 'our mission' loses readers. Lead with the customer's problem and outcome.
Vague claims
'Best quality' and 'world-class service' mean nothing without proof. Use specifics, numbers and reviews.
No clear next step
Every page needs one obvious action. Too many choices, or none, both lose people.
