Stopped losing RFPs to installers who understood the rebate stack better

Voltgrid, a commercial EV charger installer, had the technical capability but kept losing bids to competitors whose proposals were built around the incentive stack a property owner or fleet operator actually needed explained. We rebuilt their content and proposal process around rebate literacy instead of just hardware specs.

The challenge

Voltgrid had the installation capability and certifications to compete for commercial EV charging projects, but kept losing RFPs to competitors whose proposals more clearly explained how NEVI funding, state EV credits, and utility make-ready programs actually reduced a property owner's or fleet operator's net project cost. Voltgrid's own marketing led with hardware specs and installation timelines — accurate, but not what was actually deciding bids. Their website had no content addressing the incentive stack at all, and the rebate landscape shifts often enough that competitors who'd built even a six-month-old page were already citing stale numbers, creating an opening for whoever could stay current.

What we did

01

Built incentive-stack content as the actual differentiator

Dedicated, actively maintained pages breaking down NEVI, relevant state EV credits, and utility make-ready program eligibility by project type — content that answered the question deciding most bids, which competitors were either skipping or letting go stale.

02

Segmented content by the two genuinely different buyer motions

A property owner evaluating a single site and a fleet operator planning a multi-location rollout ask different questions and read different proof — collapsing them into one generic 'EV charging' page under-served both audiences.

03

Tied proposal templates directly to the incentive content

Sales proposals now reference the same maintained rebate-eligibility data the website publishes, so a bid response demonstrates current incentive knowledge instead of generic hardware pricing that competitors could match on spec sheets alone.

04

Built a maintenance cadence around the policy-change cycle, not an editorial calendar

Incentive content gets reviewed against a rebate-change monitoring cadence rather than a standard quarterly content refresh, since a stale incentive claim in a proposal is a credibility problem, not just an SEO one.

The result

Qualified project inquiries rose 192% over nine months, and RFP win rate improved 41% once proposals consistently demonstrated current incentive-stack knowledge instead of hardware specs alone. Organic traffic from incentive- and rebate-specific search terms grew 2.8x as the content began ranking for exactly the questions property owners and fleet operators were searching before ever requesting a quote. Time from initial inquiry to a delivered proposal fell 34%, since sales no longer had to research current incentive eligibility from scratch for every bid.

We had the technical capability the whole time. What we didn't have was a way to show a property owner we understood their actual numbers before they ever got on a call with us.
