Clearwater, FLReviewed September 5, 2026

Two markets in one city: the beach and the mainland.

Clearwater Beach pulls in visitors from all over the world. A short drive inland, the city runs on homeowners, retirees, medical offices and a growing group of tech and B2B companies. Most businesses here need to reach one of those groups well, not both badly.

Market profile

What's actually different about Clearwater & North Pinellas

Clearwater has about 117,000 residents, according to Census Bureau estimates, and sits on the Gulf side of Pinellas County, north of St. Petersburg. Most people outside Florida know it for Clearwater Beach.

The beach economy is big, but it is seasonal and exposed. Hurricanes Helene and Milton flooded and damaged many beach businesses in fall 2024. Local news reported that one concession operator went from about 130 staff to about 40 while rebuilding. By spring 2025, most hotels and shops had reopened.

The mainland is a different market. Downtown Clearwater is home to cybersecurity training company KnowBe4, which has grown to more than 1,000 employees worldwide. Around it are professional firms, medical practices and service companies that sell to the people who live here year-round.

That split shapes marketing. A beach restaurant lives on visitor searches and maps. A roofer or dental office in Countryside depends on neighbors, reviews and trust.

Visitors decide from their hotel room

Most beach visitors pick where to eat or what to do from a phone search or map. Accurate hours, photos, menus and fresh reviews on your Google profile do more than a big ad budget.

Locals want proof you're reliable

Year-round residents hire roofers, plumbers and clinics based on reviews and a clear website. After two hard storms, many check that a company is licensed, insured and actually local.

A quiet B2B and tech base

Downtown employers like KnowBe4 have built a small tech scene. Vendors and service firms selling to these companies need sites with case studies and clear capability pages.

Searches for help are steady

Google's data shows about 260 monthly searches for 'web design Clearwater' and 210 for 'SEO Clearwater', with low competition. That's a good opening for local firms that invest early.

In their words

The part clients actually remember.

Not the reports. The uncomfortable conversation that changed the trajectory.

The hardest part was telling the board our old reporting had been optimistic, and that we would now be running fewer tests and winning less often. Watching the conversion rate move for the first time in two years made that conversation retrospectively easy.
Rosalind AchterbergHead of Ecommerce, Bramwell Home
We had spent four years measuring the content team on how much they published, and then wondering why none of it ranked. Deleting two hundred and fifty pages was the most uncomfortable thing we have done and the most obviously correct in hindsight.
Aurélien BoisvertVP Marketing, Quillon Analytics
We spent a year proud of our lead numbers while our close rate quietly fell apart, and nobody thought to ask whether we could actually service what we were buying. Cutting lead volume on purpose felt insane until the crew-week numbers came in.
