Software, farm machines and a two-state metro, growing on the edge of the prairie.

Fargo is North Dakota's largest city and one of the Upper Midwest's steadiest growth stories. Microsoft, Bobcat and NDSU anchor an economy that mixes tech, agriculture and health care.

Market profile

What's actually different about Fargo-Moorhead

Fargo had about 133,000 residents in 2023, according to Census Bureau estimates, up from roughly 126,000 in 2020. The Fargo-Moorhead metro, which crosses the Red River into Minnesota, has about 255,000 people.

Tech has deep roots here. Microsoft runs a large campus in Fargo that grew out of its purchase of local software company Great Plains. Startups and IT firms have grown around it.

Agriculture drives much of the rest. Bobcat, the compact equipment maker, has its North American headquarters in neighboring West Fargo, and a long chain of ag equipment dealers, suppliers and services serve the region's farms.

North Dakota State University brings thousands of students, and health systems like Sanford Health are major employers. Long winters shape how people shop and search, with many decisions made from home.

Ag suppliers sell across the region

Equipment dealers, parts suppliers and ag service firms sell to farms hours away. Clear product and service pages, inventory and easy quote forms bring in buyers who won't drive in first.

Tech firms recruit hard

Software companies compete for developers and analysts. Careers pages that show the work, the culture and life in Fargo help them hire.

Two states, one market

Customers live in Fargo, West Fargo and across the river in Moorhead. Pages and Google profile service areas for each town help you show up on both sides.

Winter shopping happens online

When it's below zero, people research from home. A fast website, clear prices and easy booking matter even more here. Google's data shows about 110 monthly searches for 'web design Fargo'.

In their words

The part clients actually remember.

Not the reports. The uncomfortable conversation that changed the trajectory.

We asked them to scope a portal with about forty features. They came back and said seventy percent of our call volume was three things, and we should build those and nothing else. I pushed back hard. They were right, and we shipped in ten weeks instead of a year.
Marguerite Oyelowo-BakkeOperations Director, Verrick Industrial
The uncomfortable part was being told our content was inoffensive to the point of being pointless. They wanted us to say things competitors would disagree with. That felt risky for a consultancy and it turned out to be the only thing that worked.
Séverine Adeyinka-GrootManaging Partner, Hallowes Partners
We were told our website was selling a campus when applicants were buying a job outcome. The data proving the outcome had been sitting in a folder for six years because nobody thought of it as marketing.
