Sioux Falls, SDReviewed September 5, 2026

Two health systems, a credit card industry and a metro that keeps growing.

Sioux Falls is the medical, banking and shopping center for a wide stretch of the northern Plains. People drive in from three states for care and services. That makes the reach of your marketing bigger than the city limits suggest.

Market profile

What's actually different about Sioux Falls Metro

The Sioux Falls metro had about 308,000 people in 2024, up from roughly 287,000 in 2020, according to USAFacts' analysis of Census data. Together with Rapid City, it now holds about half of South Dakota's population.

Healthcare dominates local employment. Sioux Falls Development's 2025 employer list puts Sanford Health, with the Good Samaritan Society, at 10,500 to 11,000 workers and Avera Health at 8,000 to 8,500. Smithfield Foods' pork plant employs 3,000 to 3,500, and Wells Fargo is among the city's larger employers.

The banking cluster goes back to 1981. South Dakota had removed its interest-rate caps, and Citibank moved its credit card operations to Sioux Falls, promising about 400 jobs. Financial services has been a core local industry ever since.

That leaves a market where healthcare and finance employ huge numbers of people, and where local businesses serve customers from a wide rural region as well as the city itself.

A regional draw, not just a city

People travel from across eastern South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa for medical care, shopping and services. Campaigns and local pages should reach those towns, not just Sioux Falls addresses.

Healthcare competes for staff too

With two large health systems hiring constantly, clinics and private practices compete for nurses and staff as much as patients. Recruiting pages and job ads often matter as much as patient marketing.

Financial firms need careful marketing

Banks, card issuers and lenders work under consumer finance rules on disclosures and advertising. Their campaigns need compliance review built into the process, not added at the end.

'Marketing agency' leads local search

Google's data shows about 140 monthly searches for 'marketing agency Sioux Falls' and 90 for 'web design Sioux Falls'. A growing metro with that much intent rewards businesses that show up first.

In their words

The part clients actually remember.

Not the reports. The uncomfortable conversation that changed the trajectory.

We were three weeks from cutting the channel that was actually feeding us, and we would have had a defensible-looking dashboard justifying it the whole way. What I found hardest was accepting that our reporting had been wrong for two years, not that it needed fixing.
Yusuf Adeyemi-ClarkeVP Marketing, Ashgrove Systems
The hardest part was telling the board our old reporting had been optimistic, and that we would now be running fewer tests and winning less often. Watching the conversion rate move for the first time in two years made that conversation retrospectively easy.
Rosalind AchterbergHead of Ecommerce, Bramwell Home
We had spent four years measuring the content team on how much they published, and then wondering why none of it ranked. Deleting two hundred and fifty pages was the most uncomfortable thing we have done and the most obviously correct in hindsight.
