America's distribution center runs on B2B buyers who search before they call.

FedEx, a world-class cargo airport, river and rail freight, major health systems and now one of the biggest AI data centers in the country. Most Memphis B2B firms still market like it's all handshakes. Competition for these searches is low.

Market profile

What's actually different about Greater Memphis

Greater Memphis has about 1.3 million people across parts of Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. It's a logistics economy first. Trade, transportation and utilities account for about 189,000 of the metro's roughly 652,000 jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

FedEx is the anchor. It's headquartered here and accounts for more than 30,000 jobs in the area. Its World Hub at Memphis International Airport sorts packages through the night, which makes Memphis one of the busiest cargo airports in the world. Add Mississippi River barge traffic, several Class I railroads and the interstates, and you get a huge network of warehouses, freight brokers, 3PLs and the companies that supply them.

Healthcare is the other big base. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is headquartered here, alongside Methodist Le Bonheur, Baptist Memorial and Regional One. Education and health services employ about 104,000 people. AutoZone and International Paper are also headquartered in Memphis.

Two big projects are reshaping the region, in different directions. xAI's Colossus supercomputer site is now the largest capital investment in the region's history, and xAI has become one of the area's largest taxpayers. It also faces local pushback over pollution and power demand. Meanwhile Ford's BlueOval City campus east of Memphis dropped its EV plans. It's now the Tennessee Truck Center, with gas truck production planned for 2029, so the supplier boom many expected is arriving later and smaller.

Logistics buyers compare you on specifics

A shipper choosing a 3PL, warehouse or freight broker wants square footage, locations, certifications, technology integrations and lanes served. Most Memphis logistics sites list a phone number and a stock photo of a truck. The ones that publish the details win the shortlist before a call ever happens.

The data center brings new buyers and new scrutiny

xAI's build-out needs electricians, construction firms, security, staffing and specialized suppliers. That's real demand. It also means local readers are skeptical of big-tech hype. Content that's specific and honest about what you do lands better than buzzwords.

BlueOval City changed the supplier math

Many West Tennessee suppliers planned around an EV plant opening years ago. With gas trucks now set for 2029 and batteries for 2028, suppliers need marketing that wins work today from other buyers, not just a pitch for a plant that isn't running yet.

One metro, three states

Customers and employers are spread across Shelby County, DeSoto County in Mississippi and Crittenden County in Arkansas. People search 'Memphis' and they search their suburb, like Germantown, Collierville, Southaven or Bartlett. A single city page misses many of them.

In their words

The part clients actually remember.

Not the reports. The uncomfortable conversation that changed the trajectory.

We asked them to scope a portal with about forty features. They came back and said seventy percent of our call volume was three things, and we should build those and nothing else. I pushed back hard. They were right, and we shipped in ten weeks instead of a year.
Marguerite Oyelowo-BakkeOperations Director, Verrick Industrial
The uncomfortable part was being told our content was inoffensive to the point of being pointless. They wanted us to say things competitors would disagree with. That felt risky for a consultancy and it turned out to be the only thing that worked.
Séverine Adeyinka-GrootManaging Partner, Hallowes Partners
We were told our website was selling a campus when applicants were buying a job outcome. The data proving the outcome had been sitting in a folder for six years because nobody thought of it as marketing.

Local questions

Memphis questions, answered straight.

More and more, yes, especially newer logistics managers and companies moving into the region. They search for specific capabilities, like temperature-controlled warehousing or a lane, and compare a few sites before calling. Clear pages for each service and location get you on that list, and competition for these searches here is low.
